This blog gives our family and friends a chance to be involved in our lives and watch our children grow. We have been blessed with four beautiful children; Ethan, Gracie, Lexie & Eli. Lexie and Eli were both born with Hydrocephalus. Siblings with Hydrocephalus is rare, yet not unheard of.
I can’t believe how much Ethan doesn’t look like a newborn anymore. Everywhere we go all we hear is “look how big he is”. When we tell them that he is 2 months they all reply with WOW! I think he looks like a normal 2 month old, but I don’t really have another child to compare him too. All I know is that my arms are getting tired a lot quicker and that Ethan is still eating like a champ. He is not a big fan of his swing but will settle for it after a couple of minutes crying and no mommy. What I have noticed is that he loves to just lie on a blanket and look up above at the ceiling fan while it is moving. He prefers doing that more than being in his other toys. Yesterday my friend Juanita invited me to play group. Even though Ethan is too young for it, she thought it might be great for us to get out of the house and a chance for me to meet some other mothers. I was able to talk with some of the women there that had infants and got to hear their stories and advice. Ethan actually had a good time. It seemed like each kid wanted to come play with him. He would smile as they jumped around him. I think he liked being constantly entertained. Once that kid got bored and went away, a new kid would walk up and continued to entertain Ethan. He was all smiles and I was happy to share the job of occupying him. For the past couple of nights Ethan got his nighttime feeding at 8:00 and was put to bed at 8:30. He hasn’t woken up till 3:30 for his first feeding of the night. I am loving his new routine. I do hope that it continues.
Today Ethan had his 2-month appointment. He now weighs 11lbs and 5 oz, 21.8 in height and head circumference is 15.6. The Doctor said that he is doing great and is completely normal. Now is where the story takes a turn. The nurse came in to administer the shots. One moment Ethan was smiling to mommy then suddenly turned beet red and was screaming. She came in from behind and gave him three shots in his leg. It took me about 5 minutes to calm him from his screaming but only to a whimper. He has been whimpering all day long and it is heart wrenching because I really can't help him. Due to the shots he had developed a fever. Therefore I gave him some Tylenol, which the doctor had given me. In the picture Ethan is crashed out from the Tylenol and you can see his little band-aid. My poor baby.
Today Ethan has had a great day enjoying the wonderful weather that Texas has to offer. Now I can start taking him out without freaking out if he is cold. The weather is said to get up into the 90's today. One great thing about San Angelo are the parks. There is one park that I take Ethan to that has great trails for us to walk on (lose baby weight) and great swings that are meant for moms and infants. He loves the motion of it. I love it because it is a chance to get out the house and really to bond with him. We have our own special time together.
Nowadays Ethan must be going trough a growth spurt because he is eating more and more. However, with eating more he is really getting the cute chubby body with the double chin. I can't wait till our next doctors appointment * March 10th* so that we can see how much he weighs. OHH wait I forgot. At this appointment he gets his 2-month shots. I am not looking forward to that. Especially since the mother in me wants to hurt anyone who even looks at my child wrong much less prick him with a needle. Okay I will calm down.
