Gracie's 1st visit to the ER

Yesterday we had Gracie's 6 month check up. She weighed in at 19 lbs and 15 ounces, one ounce away from being 20 lbs! Her height was 26 3/4 and her head circumference was 43 cm. She was in the 95th percentile for everything except her height which is in the 75th percentile. Her appointment went fine and then it was time for the shots. Once she started to calm down and was happy again we thought we were set to leave the hospital but we were wrong. That is when she started choking and was having difficulty breathing. She started to change in color and I was sure she didn't have anything in her mouth because I was just holding her. So after a couple frantic moments of trying to get her to breathe and stop choking she started to cry. I was relieved and thought maybe whatever was going on had passed, well that was until she started to do it again. Since she just had her shots, I thought she was having an allergic reaction so we went to the ER. By the time we get to see the Doctor, 2 1/2 freakin hours later, Gracie is playing and laughing as normal as can be. I think she is learning from her brother who is no stranger to the ER and often makes liars out of us. Of course, the doctor doesn't think anything is wrong even though he cannot explain why my child stopped breathing and was turning blue. They do a couple x-rays to see if she accidentally swallowed something but there is nothing. They said that she could've had a small reaction, but since she seems fine it must have passed. Great, now I have to go home put my daughter to sleep and pray to God she will wake up! I was disappointed with their diagnosis but what do you expect. It ain't their kid. Therefore, last night was a long one because I kept waking up to make sure she was okay.

"Homecoming for the State of Texas"

This weekend we went to the St. Louis Day Festival which is a really big event for some people around here and it has been dubbed "Homecoming for the Sate of Texas". We had some Alsatian sausage and barbecued beef plates. It was really good but the best part was the homemade chocolate cake. I indulged a little too much! They had kiddie rides and games as well as craft booths. To top it all off we got to see some people doing some clogging dance. It was quite interesting to watch. Ethan had a really great time and liked watching the dancers. Eric and I think Ethan is going to be a musical person because he enjoys all type of music, sings along to whatever I have playing and he loves to bop his head back and forth. He is always yelling at us to turn the music up louder. Which makes me feel old that I keep lowering it down and my two year old doesn't think it is loud enough.

Senna Court Family

This weekend we got to have over some of our friends from our Senna Court block for a fun weekend. Even though we are not related, we often think of our block as family members because we have spent so much time with them. Ethan was excited to see his buddies from Ohio and we even had trouble during bedtime because he didn't want to miss a thing. We enjoyed visiting with them as well and even though we weren't sitting in lawn chairs on our old block we still stayed up really late talking and laughing. It reminded us how lucky we were to have been surrounded by such a great people and how we miss hanging out with everyone on our block. While they were here we went to the Riverwalk and enjoyed the boat ride on the river. The kids seemed to really enjoy it. Afterwards we stopped by the Alamo for some pictures and ended the day with some snow cones and ice cream. It was nice to see some familiar faces and since they are living closer now, I am sure we will be seeing them again soon. Ethan was ready to go home with them and even said "Take me out to the car" as he was hiding near the luggage. Of course, he chickened out once they were leaving, but it was funny.

Good luck on your first day of school KC and Kaitlynn! We already miss you.

OCD

This summer has been really busy and we finally got a free weekend, I thought we would do some shopping, hang out at the lake, or even just go to the swimming pool. Eric, on the other hand, decided this weekend was going to be deemed “garage cleaning weekend”. It has been killing him that the garage has not been up to his freakish standards. We haven’t been able to fit both cars in it lately and that has been annoying him to no end. Therefore, he was basically doing that all weekend. Eric’s garage is often more organized than most people’s houses due to his undiagnosed obsessive compulsive disorder. Of course, if Eric is in the garage then that is where Ethan will be at. Ethan is such a daddy’s boy. The only time I saw them this weekend is when they were hungry. Since I am the one that always puts hunting, sports stuff and car stuff all on the same shelf, it didn't take long to be booted out. Even Ethan told me to go inside. Brats!

Therefore, Gracie and I enjoyed our time without the boys. She is getting so big and is rolling all over the place. She gets bored really easy so I try to keep her busy from one thing to the next. She likes being on the floor the best and I think that is due to the fact she gets to explore and move around by herself. Eric and I try so hard to get a laugh out of her but once Ethan just walks by her she starts cracking up. She just waits for him to come and talk to her. She will follow him around with her eyes just to keep tabs on him. She is busting out of her 6-9 month clothes and has started wearing 12 month clothing. She has really started to like the cereal and seems to realize what to do with the food once it is in her mouth, thankfully no more gagging.

Ethan is still enjoying the summer and just plays with his friends. He loves meeting new kids and always has to come and tell me that he made a new friend. One thing is that he always wants to play with older boys. There can be a little girl around his age but he will want to play with the older boy and do big boy stuff. I have to watch him because he will try jumping off things that are just way to high. A couple days ago, Ethan was watching his buddy Ty on his blog fly a kite. Ethan was so sure that it was happening at that moment because he went and started to put his shoes on and was telling me that we needed to go to Ty’s house because he wanted to fly a kite too. He doesn’t understand that we live far away from each other now but I promised him that we will see Ty again and that when we do they can play together. For now he will just have to settle for videos but how cute that he misses his buddy.

Here is a video of Gracie laughing at her brother.
