We've know since Eli turned one that he was allergic to egg and peanuts, but this was the first time that we saw such a severe reaction just from a touch of peanut. When we first found out about his allergy to peanut we pretty much banned it from our house. Egg was trickier since that's not something that we can realistically ban, but his reaction to egg is just not as extreme like it is to peanut. He usually just gets it out of his system by throwing up and then is good to go. Well the above picture is exactly how peanut affects him just from one touch.
While walking around the school one day with his teachers, another teacher came up and greeted Eli by shaking his hand and continued walking around with him. About 30 minutes later, his face started to puff up and it got red and blotchy. Thats when the teacher was questioned and she notified his room teachers that she had eaten a peanut butter breakfast bar earlier that morning. Of course, it was an innocent mistake and one that I've even made myself, but it's once again a reminder that it's a very serious allergy and not to be taken lightly. The school has his epi-pen on hand, but it had not reached the level required for administration. Thankfully after a couple doses of Benadryl, he was back to his normal self.
