This blog gives our family and friends a chance to be involved in our lives and watch our children grow. We have been blessed with four beautiful children; Ethan, Gracie, Lexie & Eli. Lexie and Eli were both born with Hydrocephalus. Siblings with Hydrocephalus is rare, yet not unheard of.

This is one of the presents that Eric and I got him, a radio flyer wagon. Now if only the weather could get nicer, we could use it.
Such a big boy!
4 days old, such a cutie!
With enough delays and excuses Eric finally accepted the fact that he had to go back to school. The 10 week courses seem to be taking a toll on him. I have never seen Eric study so much. During college Eric was one of those lucky kids that always got A's without ever picking up a book. However, all of the reading that is assigned keeps him busy. With all of the pressure to get good grades it is a struggle to divide time between family and school, but we do the best we can. However I think Eric will do fine on the future semesters because he got a 4.0 on his last semester. I just keep reminding him that Graduation (March 08) will be here before you know it and we will be shipped some where else.
Thankfully Ethan is doing alright and is no longer having any sickly symptoms. It seems that we couldn’t catch a break; he was either throwing up or running a fever during December. However, now he is doing fine and acting like his normal self. I think the fever is due to new teeth coming in because he now has 6 teeth and is cutting the fangs. I just keep the orajel on hand at all times. With the new teeth, Ethan decided to put up a strike on baby food. Therefore we have started to give him regular foods and he has been doing great with it. It has been a lot easier than I expected and he seems to enjoy it a lot more. He really likes Spaghetti!
We hope that everyone’s New Year started out great and that the year continues to be good to you.

On a lighter note, Ethan is doing so well at walking! He looks so cute waddling everywhere.
Yesterday Ethan kicked off his 11th month with a bang, the morning bottle of milk that he enjoyed ended back up and all over Eric. For some odd reason he couldn’t keep any fluids or solids down. I called the doctor and they told me that it was the stomach flu and that they couldn’t really do anything and since he wasn’t running a fever it just had to run its course. They said just to keep fluids in him and it should only last 24 hours. Therefore we just kept giving him fruit and diluted Gatorade and I kept busy washing his clothes and bathing him. But just like they had said within 24 hours he was doing much better and was drinking and eating normally. On the other hand, Eric got sick and we had to experience the whole ordeal over again. Thankfully baby and Daddy are doing well and hopefully this flu has left our house for good!!!

You could never tell that a second before this picture was taken; Ethan was throwing the biggest temper tantrum. Red scrunched face, tears, arms and legs wailing, and screaming so loud that it probably convinced the neighbors to think of moving. However once I pulled the camera out, a whole new Ethan takes over and becomes the happy sweet innocent child that you see. He will even sit still for me and watches the ready light. Afterwards he will grab the camera to see the picture on the back. How does he know this?!! I think we may take way too many pictures.
He also got his flu shot today. He is getting much better at shots, after a 2 second cry he was done and back to normal. We have been so spoiled living in the southern part of the
Eric wants to retire in
You remember the CRAZE, then the BANNING of slap bracelets. Those are still cool
You have owned a pair of Jelly-Shoes. Really!!! What was I thinking?
On the other hand, Eric decided that since we weren’t going to be home he wasn’t going to put any lights up. That was until about every person on our block had their lights up. He gave in and embraced the Christmas tradition of decorating. As he says it, “I don’t want to be the only scrooge on the block”.
Eric, Ethan and I were in line standing behind this mother and her 2 or 3 year old daughter. The little girl kept pointing at Ethan yelling “Baby, Baby”!!! Trying to get her mothers attention she kept yelling it louder. Finally her mother turns around and says, “Sweetie that is not a baby, he is a little boy”. I was surprised by that response because he is still a baby, well to us he is. He can’t walk, still eats baby food, and is not even 1 yet! However, the more I thought of it, the more I realized that he is growing and will be leaving his baby year behind to step into his toddler years. He has become so much more independent and enjoys doing things on his own without needing me like a newborn would. It hits me even more when I see newborn babies and hear that newborn cry. The funny part is when we left the line and were walking away. Eric turns to me and says in all seriousness, “Did you hear that woman say that Ethan is not a baby. When did he go from being a baby to a little boy?”
Men have always left the child raising their wives, but nowadays fathers have become so involved and have really accepted the role of co-parents. Sometimes I forget how much Eric means to me especially when it comes to Ethan. He is such a wonderful dad and helps out so much more than I expected. Ethan enjoys seeing his dad walk through the door at the end of the day and just wants him and only him. Eric feeds him dinner and they have their own special playtime together. I thought it was really to give me a break (“break” meaning house work and dinner) but then I realized that it is a chance for Eric to catch up with Ethan and spend some quality time together. The other day Eric said that it breaks his heart when Ethan is standing by the front door in his pajamas waving goodbye to him in the morning. I had always known that Eric has cherished Ethan but when he said that, it nearly broke my heart that he felt the importance of being involved and that a little thing as a wave meant so much to him. Eric has often said that he has no idea how single mothers pull it off and has so much respect for them. It is great when a man understands the role of a mother.
Ethan and I have decided that if we need to leave the house, it is on an as needed basis only. It takes me so long just to get him ready to go outside. This includes putting his socks, shoes and hat back on after him taking them off for the 20th time. Therefore I would rather wait till Eric’s gets home and I go and run the errands by myself. Plus, it seems too cold to be taking a baby outside especially because Ethan is almost 10 months and hasn’t had a cold or an ear infection yet (knocking on wood).

Since it was our last playgroup before Halloween, we decided that we would have the kids dress up in their costumes. Ethan's is dressed up as a monkey which I think resembles the monkeys on Wizard of Oz. His Grandma Teresa made it especially for him and it has truly come out wonderful. I was a little anxious about him leaving the head piece on but he did really well and didn't mess with it. There are some pictures of him at playgroup with some of the other kids. We tried to get them all in the picture but with this age it is a hit or miss. We can't wait for Halloween. Thanks again Grandma Teresa for a great costume, xoxo.

It seems I may have jinxed us because ever since I posted the last message Ethan has been falling all over the place. He is trying real hard to stand and balance without any help from the furniture. Unfortunately, he has not been too successful because he is constantly falling down. I try to help him, but of course he wants to do it on his own. He has a purple bump in the middle of his head that just makes me cringe.
We have a video to share of Ethan and his adventures. Click here to see it.

Crawling in the Hanger
Four Generations
The good Lord was creating a model for military wives and was into his sixth day of overtime when an angel appeared. She said," Lord, you seem to be having a lot of trouble with this one. What's wrong with the standard model?"
The Lord replied," Have you seen the specs on this order? She has to be completely independent, possess the qualities of both mother and father, be a perfect hostess for four to 40 with an hour notice, run on black coffee, handle every emergency imaginable without a manual, be able to carry on cheerfully, even if she is pregnant and has the flu, and she must have six pair of hands."
The angel shook her head. "Six pair of hands? No way!"
The Lord continued. "Don't worry, we will make other military wives to help her. And we will give her an unusually strong heart so it can swell with pride in her husbands achievements, sustain the pain of separation, beat soundly when it is overworked and tired, and be large enough to say, "I understand" when she doesn't and "I love you" regardless.
"Lord," said the angel, touching his arm gently, "Go to bed and get some rest. You can finish this tomorrow."
"I can't stop now," Said the Lord. "I am so close to creating something unique. Already this model heals herself when she is sick, can put up six unexpected guests for the weekend, wave good-bye to her husband from a pier, a runway or a depot, and understand why it's important that he leave."
The angel circled the model of the military wife, looked at it
closely and sighed.
"It looks fine, but it's too soft."
"She may look soft," replied the Lord, "but she had the strength of a lion. You would not believe what she can endure."
Finally, the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek of the Lord's creation. "There's a leak," she announced. "Something is wrong with the construction. I'm not surprised that it has cracked. You are trying to put too much into this model."
The Lord appeared offended at the angel's lack of confidence. "What you see is not a leak," he said. "It's a tear."
"A tear? What is it there for?" asked the angel.
The Lord replied, "It's for joy, sadness, pain, disappointment, loneliness, pride and dedication to all the values that she and her husband hold dear."
"You are a genius!" exclaimed the angel.
The Lord looked puzzled and replied, "I didn't put it there."
